It was branded the capital of the island in 1860 and is formally known as “Puerto de las Cabras” (Port of goats). Puerto del Rosario is made up of two parts: the town and the municipality.
Firstly, the town is busy, although it is not full of tourist attractions. Boasting the main port of Fuerteventura, many ships come in and out of the town daily. In the winter season, mainline cruise ships use the port to dock, which increases the number of visitors.
Secondly, there are numerous things worth visiting for, such as its sight seeing, sculptures, mural paintings and museum.
Did you know there is a beach in Puerto del Rosario
The beach may not be as scenic as some of the other islands resorts but it has undergone significant work. Playa Chica is a sheltered beach with clear waters. Whilst Playa Blanca, to the south, has a strong surf.
Home to the biggest shopping centre in Fuerteventura
We were lucky enough to visit the traffic-free streets of Primero de Mayo, which offers a safe environment to walk around in. Firstly, the main shopping street León y Castillo, is home to a wide range of shops thanks to the Las Rotondas shopping centre, which offers all the latest trends.
Secondly, the Las Rotondas shopping centre is not only the biggest in Fuerteventura, but it houses all the shops under one roof. With over 100 shops, the modern centre was a pleasurable place to shop.
In Conclusion: Here’s some of the shops that you can find across the four floors of Las Rotondas:
• Pedro del Hierro, Zara, H&M, Massimo, Dutti and Guess.
I also found a range of other shops such as: multi-brand stores, perfume shops and souvenirs. As well as the largest supermarket on the island.
So, what are you waiting for?!
